
Cheryl Roumen
Cheryl Roumen is senior Program Officer at the Dutch Research Council in the domain Applied and Engineering Sciences. She is a liaison between research in the field of digital technology, (clinical) data science and healthcare and industry. She works with a.o. the Dutch Cancer Foundation and Dutch Heart Foundation and is member of the scientific committee of the Breast Cancer Foundation Netherlands.
Her research focused on patient-centered digital innovation, e.g. for improving self-reliance, lifestyle and health. She was member of Universities of the Netherlands Digital Society Health & Well-being. Up till 2024, she was vice-coordinator of the Master Health and Digital Transformation and coordinator of the minor AI in data-driven care at Maastricht University.
She graduated from the University of Amsterdam in Medical Biology and performed an internship at the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute in Berkeley, California, USA. She completed a PhD in lifestyle intervention for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and worked in industry as intelligence specialist, program- and communication manager. Between 2018-2022, she was Head of Research Affairs at radiation oncology clinic Maastro in Maastricht.
